PGE Park Renovation Update — 11.29.10

29 11 2010

With the Expansion Draft last week and the Kit Unveiling next week, there is a thrill in the air right now in Timbersville. Add the seething hive of activity at PGE Park these days, and this is easily the most exciting December in my experience supporting the club.

In addition to the larger roof structure, which you can see in the above pic, today at the park I saw:

An excavator digging out the concrete foundation of the erstwhile pitchers’ mound

A new layer of rebar foundation along the west wall, beneath where a new warning track will lie (also beneath the new and much foreshortened Widmer beer garden in the southwest corner)

Workers pouring concrete for the new plaza area in the northwest corner, and on the roof of the new Key Bank Club

A closer look at the new structure(s) in the southeast corner. I asked last week if anyone knew what these would be, and commenter Dan said they were bathrooms and concessions. Since I’m nearly illiterate when it comes to reading design schematics (h/t again to Dan for this link [.pdf]), I can only go by what my contact at the Park tells me, which is that the new buildings are part of the Providence Clinic.

In any case, the concrete hasn’t even been poured there yet, and it’s just a few support/form walls up right now while work continues underneath.

For some reason the top couple rows of seats have been removed from a few sections around the west and north stands; I first noticed this 3 weeks ago, and today I saw the same thing in 107. I have no idea why this is being done, but it was good for a laugh on twitter.

There was also (unpictured) some new aluminum framing up in the pressbox, in what will be the new broadcast room.

Keep using the webcam for your daily fix, and check back here every Monday for my weekly updates. I should have some more to report from the bowels of the Park next week (i.e. locker rooms), and soon I’ll be able to give much closer views, from the pitch (as soon as the construction zone is deemed safe enough for a civilian like me).

Nice to see the work on the roof, it is hard to tell from the angle of the webcam how much lattice work it being done.

It still looks to me (on Page A103 of the schematics) that there are restrooms and concessions going into that space, but I can’t tell on which level.

Okay, actually it says right there at the bottom it’s the concourse level floor plan… and you can tell just by looking at it for longer than 30 seconds like I just did. I thought the Clinic is primarily sub-concourse level.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to have Timbers FC or whatever written across the seats? That would be boss.
